Another 369,845 people saw the “Harry Potter” movie on Saturday and Sunday, adding over 530 million Yen (6.9 million USD) to its overall revenue in Japan. It even already broke through the 5 billion Yen (65 million USD) mark.
“Transformers 3” was just as much of a box office hit around the globe, but ‘only’ 363,912 of the Japanese people decided to see it on its opening weekend. Just as a reminder, “Harry Potter” was seen by over 880,000 people on its first weekend. When looking at the third-week results of “Harry Potter”, “Transformers” could have obtained the first place with only a couple thousand more moviegoers, because its revenue was actually higher by 40 million Yen, due to a longer runtime and more 3D screenings. (The number of sold tickets has priority for this ranking.)
Disney Pixar’s “Cars 2” also did a good job on its first weekend in Japan, thanks to its ‘polyrhythmic’ promotions. 336,597 people saw the movie, resulting in a revenue of over 450 million Yen (5.9 million USD). The movie obviously aims at families with children, therefore the Japanese dubbed version was preferred by 98% of those who saw it during the weekend.
The new “Naruto” movie also opened inside the top 10 with 11,722 sold tickets and a revenue of over 125 million Yen (1.65 million USD).
